Deadline - Bang-Yao Liu
In this piece the sound and music coorelate accordingly to what is showing. It is a mixture of a looping beat along with sounds to highlight the actions that is taking place throughout the video. Some of the sounds are a keyboard, sound effects found in a video game, reving of a car, rain and lightening and etc...
In this piece I think that sound and music worked to its benefit. Listening to the video without sound looses a sense of it's playfulness and rhythm. As you watch you can imagine and hear the sounds in your head.
After the guest speaker, I start to listen to things differently. As I was watching and listening to this video I think, "What if that isn't a reving of car, rather it's made by (_______)?" Programs we explored with the speaker really broadened my horizons and stretched my imagination musically. Basically with some arranging you can make a beat or song or something sound like something else. Which then reminded me of this video...
Hyperactive - Lasse Gjersten
This technique he used was a combination of sounds he recorded and then edited together to make something rather interesting. I guess you could just beat box and arrange sound in the way that a musician plays an instrument live. This technique is similar to how I went about using sound. I found and/or made sound and arranged it to correlate with my animation.
Its really great that the one clip of the post-it notes had that segment at the end - because someone had posted the video before and we were all mystified at how they had done such a feat (like 'how much time did that take?'). Now the mystery is revealed - so it was done on a computer and then projected, well that certainly makes things (a little) easier - not to say it didn't take a lot of time (but they knew what they were doing from start to finish).
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that sound played a big role in the sticky note animation. It had been posted before and I never thought to watch it without sound, but I did this time after you mentioned it and it wasn't as exciting. I love that this clip shows the making of it. It is interesting that they used the computer to story board. I knew the first time that I watched it, there was an intense amount of preparation. I think the computer would have been the quickest way, but it didn't occur to me that that would have been an option.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed both videos a lot. I was shocked by the process of making that with the first one - I didn't expect that the video was made both digitally and hand-made. The sound did add a lot to the video, but I think an 8-bit track would have nailed the computer theme and overall be more effective.
ReplyDeleteThe second video was funny, I always wanted to do something like that. I believe our bodies can make sounds a computer cannot produce.
the faces of the guy that remixed his noises really makes it funny to watch. he actually reminds me of another person i watched once that looked just like him that did that with a drum set.
ReplyDeleteon ot the sticky notes one, your dead right, its pretty lack luster when theirs no audio, something about the semi playfully tone of the audio helps to keep the attention.
